Buyer Planner

Location: Sarasota, FL

Summary of Responsibilities:

The Buyer Planner is responsible for activities associated with purchasing of assigned goods and supporting changes to the ERP system.  This position will interact with multiple departments to implement corporate policies and practices for purchasing while maintaining ISO, CGMP and SOX compliance.

  • Implement programs, materials and activities which support the growth efforts of the Company
  • Maintain cost discipline within assigned programs

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Primary interface for internal customers on purchase order management and supply chain concerns and questions
  • Perform all purchasing activity for assigned items to include competitive quotations and supplier selection based on quality, cost, lead-time and service
  • Review MRP to ensure all appropriate stocking levels represent lead time, demand and supply requirements
  • Minimize cost by negotiating with key suppliers on purchase price
  • Identify potential new sources of supply and initiate supplier qualification activities
  • Support improvements to ERP system with data entry and maintenance
  • Coordinate Business Partner application efforts with Quality, Finance and appropriate departments within the Company
  • Collaborate with external Business Partners with all aspects of setting up of Business Partners as Vendors in Approved Supplier List and in the ERP system
  • Achieve company goals and objectives for financial and service metrics
  • Responsible for other duties and projects as assigned

Job Complexity:

Management of the internal requirements is a key role of the position.  Specifications, quality, delivery, cost requirements need to be understood and managed in order to achieve a successful purchasing result.  Routinely collaborating with external suppliers is a fundamental responsibility of this position.  The position requires strong organizational and communication skills.

Supervisory Responsibilities:


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related discipline or relevant experience
  • 2 – 4 years purchasing or planning experience with emphasis on manufacturing in the medical device/biotech industry; internship experience considered
  • Knowledge of quality system regulations and MRP/ERP systems

Desired Experience, Knowledge, and Skills:

  • Ability to work effectively with manufacturing, quality, marketing/sales, finance, engineering and R&D
  • Ability to work autonomously, effectively manage time and deliver results on time
  • Demonstrated organization skills and attention to detail
  • Extensive knowledge of MS Office and SAP
  • Prior contract/supplier management experience preferred
  • Excellent organizational, presentation, and communication skills
