Pain has a way of quietly reshaping your life. Maybe you have started avoiding the stairs, skipping a morning walk you used to love, or waving off plans because you are not sure how your knee will feel that day?
Osteoarthritis is a condition in which the protective cartilage in your joints slowly breaks down, causing pain. If this is the source of your pain, you are not alone. The good news is that there are many treatment options worth exploring, and Cingal is one of them!
What Is Cingal?
Cingal is a single-injection treatment for the pain of knee osteoarthritis. What makes it different from other joint injections is that it combines two components, hyaluronic acid (HA) and an anti-inflammatory medicine, a corticosteroid, in one simple injection that is usually performed right in your doctor’s office. It is designed to treat osteoarthritis knee pain with one simple injection.
With over 1 million injections performed in patients worldwide, Cingal provides both rapid and sustained pain relief for people with knee arthritis.

How does Cingal Work?
Your knee joint is filled with synovial fluid, which acts as a natural lubricant, that cushions the knee and allows it to move smoothly. In osteoarthritis, both the quality and amount of this fluid decreases, reducing its ability to lubricate and protect the joint. As a result, the cartilage that cushions the ends of the bones gradually wears down, leading to pain, stiffness, and swelling.
To relieve pain, Cingal is made of two main materials:
- Hyaluronic Acid: Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a natural part of the synovial fluid in your joints. Inspired by the body’s own joint lubricant and protector, Cingal contains HA that will break down naturally over time1 and is not made from animal sources.
- Triamcinolone hexacetonide (TH): This is a medicine (corticosteroid) that doctors have used in joint care for many years. It works with the HA to help reduce swelling and pain, within days after the injection.2
Cingal is different because it combines two proven treatments into one injection to provide fast acting and long-lasting knee pain relief.
What You Can Expect: The Injection Process
One of the things people like about Cingal is that it’s simple. It is a single shot that a doctor can give directly to your knee in an office or clinic setting. Other injection options may need three or four shots to spread out over several weeks.
Many people start to feel less pain in the first few weeks after the injection. For most people, relief can last up to six months or even longer.2
Your doctor will explain what will happen before, during, and after the injection. This can be different at each doctor’s office or clinic.
Questions to Ask Your Doctor
If your doctor is recommending an injection to help your osteoarthritis joint pain, below are example questions that you may want to ask your doctor.
- What injections do you recommend, and why?
- What can I expect before, during, and after the procedure?
- When will the pain start to go away?
- How long will the pain relief last?
- Can I have more than one injection?
- Have you used Cingal?
- Do you think Cingal is a good fit for me?
- What should I do after the injection to make sure it works well?
- When should I follow up with you again?
