Senior Tax Manager

Location: Bedford, MA

Position Scope:

The primary responsibilities for this role will be managing the global tax planning and compliance activities for Anika Therapeutics, Inc and its affiliates.  This position will be the key tax position within the Company and work closely with senior financial management, external tax service providers and operating departments.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the coordination, preparation and documentation of the interim and annual global income tax provision in accordance with ASC 740, including preparing related journal entries and account reconiliations
  • Prepare the US tax provision including documenting all permanent and temporary items and prepare or review US/Non-US return to provision calculations
  • Prepare federal and state R&D credit calculations as well as other applicable state credits
  • Work with local teams to review and/or prepare interim and annual Non-US tax provisions (Italy and UK)
  • Research and document FIN 48 positions/memos as well as outside basis difference (indefinite reinvestment/foreseeable future) assertions
  • Prepare quarterly and annual income tax footnote disclosures in accordance with SEC requirements
  • Coordinate and oversee the US federal and state tax compliance efforts including estimated payments and extension calculations
  • Review of US federal income and state income tax returns, currently prepared externally
  • Preparation of tax basis balance sheet, including maintenance of inventory of deferred tax assets and liabilities and income tax payable
  • Research and document income tax accounting methods, tax positions and processes
  • Manage quarterly estimated income taxes, sales & use tax payments and filings
  • Evaluate, propose and support global tax planning activities
  • Support of IRS and state income tax audits
  • Coordinate and oversee Company’s sales tax reporting processes
  • Assist in other tax related matters (eg: payroll taxes, VAT related taxes, excise taxes, etc.)
  • Assist Finance Department on accounting memos and other assistance for tax related and other topics
  • Keep up to date on tax regulations and their organizational impact
  • Manage and support special projects as needed

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Manage external consultants and internal resources.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Taxation, Finance or related field
  • Credentials should include CPA or MST
  • 7 or more years of progressive experience working with tax provisions within public accounting and/or multinational corporations
  • Strong federal tax accounting and compliance experience including the R&D tax credit, Section 263-A and Section 199
  • Knowledge of State and International tax
  • Familiarity with intercompany agreements and transfer pricing

Desired Experience, Knowledge, and Skills:

  • MBA or Masters’ in Accounting or Finance
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical/ biotech/medical device industry
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Experience mid-tier accounting and tax software
  • Ability to work autonomously, effectively manage time and deliver results on time
  • Excellent presentation skills, both written and in platform presentation format
