The “BOSS™” makes it’s Debut in Times Square!

On September 5th, 2019 we introduced our latest implant, the BOSS Toe Fixation System. Shortly afterwards, the media picked up our story and there we were for all to see, in the largest walking city in the US!

It starts with..

Hallux Rigidus. It’s the most common form of arthritis in the foot. Approximately 1 in 40 people over the age of 50 will suffer from it, and the majority of them being women with symptoms developing over the age of 30.

The Problem

Many patients were being treated with a synthetic implant and although it seemed to work well for some, it caused A LOT of problems for many.

Surgeons were getting positive results revising failed Synthetic Cartilage implants with our ToeMotion system, and patients were happy with the outcome.

Even though the ToeMotion system works well in these instances, it wasn’t originally designed for doing these revisions. We saw an increasing demand for this procedure and a bit of room for improvement in the design of the screw in order to fill the distal bone void left behind by the Synthetic Cartilage implant. From there, the BOSS was born and the rest is history!

The remaining problem is that many patients suffering from a failed synthetic implant are unaware of their options. They are left to believe their only choice is a fusion because that is what their Dr recommended. The good news is that there are many Doctors out there that are experienced with our motion-preserving procedures.

A Solution

We are trying our best to bring awareness that a Toe Fusion isn’t the gold standard. We care about bringing people the best possible outcome. A big toe that still has mobility, that you can bend, jump and push off of. Being able to wear your favorite pair of heels again. Getting up on your toes to reach for something on a shelf.. and yes, even comfortably walking around Times Square in New York City.

To us, that’s the best possible outcome.
