World Arthritis Day: Explore Arthritis Solutions!

World Arthritis Day (WAD) is a global awareness-raising day. We are participating by sharing information about our joint preservation, sports medicine and orthobiologic systems intended to treat damage to the body and/or joints caused by arthritis, injury or other disease.

Did you know? 1 in 4 Americans suffer from arthritis, yet many of them are unaware of all the treatment options that are available.

We are highlighting one product from each of our newly integrated companies. Continue reading to learn more!

Anika

TACTOSET: An injectable Hyaluronic Acid (HA)-enhanced bone repair therapy developed for the treatment of bone voids and other bone defects of the skeletal system caused by trauma or age-related degeneration. Subchondral bone voids are extremely painful. This injectable bone substitute material is injected directly into the bone, where it fills the void, hardens, and is resorbed and replaced by regenerated bone during the healing process. Tactoset is Anika’s first surgically-delivered regenerative therapy in the US. It is provided in a kit with two components (a liquid solution in a pre-loaded syringe and a dry powder) that must be mixed intra-operatively using the supplied mixing system to form a cohesive paste prior to administration.

Arthrosurface

Arthrosurface Shoulder Implants

OVO/OVOMotion® with Inlay Glenoid Arthroplasty Systems: These anatomic joint preservation implant systems restore the native anatomy of the shoulder joint while preserving bone and surrounding joint structures such as the rotator cuff and subscapularis tendon. By incorporating an aspherical (ovoid) shape humeral implant and inlay glenoid implant, the Arthrosurface OVOMotion® with Inlay Glenoid Shoulder Arthroplasty Systems has shown to be effective in younger, active patients as well as those with advanced glenohumeral arthritis presenting with posterior subluxation and erosion. This innate design has been proven to reduce pain and increase range of motion as recently reported in the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow surgery.

According to the study published in the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery by Anthony Miniaci, MD, younger, active adults who underwent anatomic total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA) and received the OVO® with Inlay Glenoid Shoulder Arthroplasty System experienced excellent range of motion, improved clinical outcomes, no reoperations or radiographic loosening and a high rate of return to occupational and sporting activity at follow-up. With no activity restrictions following recovery, patients from all walks of life can largely maintain their choice lifestyles.

ParcusParcus Atlas CMC Kit

ATLAS CMC KIT: The Anatomic Thumb Arthroplasty Ligament System (ATLAS) is an anatomic thumb carpal-metacarpal (CMC) reconstruction procedure. This procedure corrects CMC (thumb) instability and provides a rapid return to function by placing a stable, suture-based anchor fixation at the anatomic insertion sites of the thumb’s basal ligament. Its use in surgery will be dependent upon your surgeon’s preference. Surgical features and benefits include:

  • Suspensory arthroplasty construct: Does not require a tendon graft harvest
  • Small insertion footprint & sub-cortical fixation: Strong, stable, bone sparing
